ATIA in collaboration with Instituto Pedagogico Arubano (IPA) is organizing a brainstorm session on Monday May 9th on the role of IPA in transforming teachers.
IPA as the only teacher training institute on the island is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year and is approaching stakeholders in the private sector to get input on various topics of importance in the education of teachers.
The Ministry of Education and the Department of Curriculum Development in collaboration with teachers and education specialists have been working on (re)writing the different educational policies over the past years. However, the fact remains that the impact of policy change in education is perhaps only visible on the long term and also relatively difficult to measure quantitatively.
IPA is often put under the magnifying glass and bears the brunt of criticism for bad results. As a result teachers are often left unmotivated and do not feel valued by the Aruban community. The increasing social problems and lack of technological innovation in schools and the continued usage of traditional and sometimes outdated didactics contribute to giving teachers a sense of powerlessness.
During the brainstorm session the following topics will be discussed:
- Language in the education system
- Lack of authenticity
- Profile and role of a teacher
- Development of Aruba’s professional capital
Date: Monday May 9th, 2016
Time: 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm
